And so the nerves are kicking in more than I’d like to admit. I’ve had one donation so far and that the first week is going ahead, but to be honest I’d like a lot more donations because a) I want to raise as much money as possible for Sanctuary for Kids and b) it would make me feel like I’m not going to be going through this alone.
Every time I drink my morning cuppa, I find myself counting down the days until I’ll start the day with a non-caffeinated ginseng tea. I’m also planning to come home from work on the last day of this month and box up everything that is caffeinated in my flat and put it away so that temptation is out of the way come 1st February.
I’ve already had some well wishes regarding the fundraiser from friends of mine and Suanne Braun tweeted me her encouragement today, which made me insanely happy and also insanely determined to get through this, more than I had been before.
Want to know exactly what I’ll be giving up during the event? Here have a list:
- Cola drinks
- Caffeinated tea
- Coffee
- Any form of chocolate known to man.
Now that doesn’t look like a long list, but when you look at the fact that on average I have the following each day (on a work day, weekends are worse):
- Morning cup of Earl Grey (x2)
- Cereal bar with chocolate on as well as my breakfast banana
- 600ml bottle of Diet Pepsi and a chocolate bar/another cereal bar during my morning’s work
- 600 ml bottle of Diet Pepsi and a chocolate bar/another cereal bar (x2) during my afternoon’s work
- Diet Pepsi when I get home
- 1 or 2 cups of Earl Grey before bed
On weekends add at least 2 coffees/coffee based drinks a day to the above and remove 1-2 of the Diet Pepsi drinks.
That’s an average. Stressful days up my caffeine intake in the form of chocolate as comfort food. Then you add to that that with the exception of the last nocaffnat event, that has been the constant since I finished uni (it was more than this from about the age of 14 to the age of 21) and this is a serious hardcore life long addiction.
